These schools use GL testing for which we have many detailed resources. These exams test a child in four areas: maths, comprehension, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. Entry into these schools depends on your child’s score on these tests. If you live outside of the catchment area for these schools, your child will need to achieve a higher score than those inside the catchment area. We like to begin entrance exam preparation with a student at the start of year 4 to ensure that we have adequate time to give them a fair chance in a very competitive process. We do also run short courses in key problem areas, for example, non-verbal reasoning alone, which is very abstract.

These schools may use their own assessment or GL testing. Bolton School and Bury Grammar Schools use exams similar to GL tests, for which we have many detailed resources and are well experienced in preparing for. For other schools, we use sample resources from the schools’ websites to ensure our preparation covers every type of question. These schools usually require a child to undergo an interview for admission and so, as part of the preparation process, we will teach your child interview techniques and give them plenty of practice and feedback.

The free initial assessment that your child will receive when you book with us will identify whether or not your child is at a suitable level to be able to prepare for and pass these exams.

Another package we offer is a full, mock entrance exam with a detailed feedback report. This is free for students receiving entrance exam tuition at our centre but is available for students not enrolled at a cost of £50. This is a 2 hour session with a full feedback report delivered within 48 hours, identifying the child’s strengths and weaknesses.
